May just may be our favorite month around here. Why do you ask? Because May is Mental Health Awareness Month!
Mental health awareness is our passion and we hope to be a place where our community can all come together and work to improve mental health. All year round, we here at MHRB teach, fight stigma, provide support, educate the public, and advocate for policies that support people with mental illness and their families.
So, what is mental health and how is that different from mental health awareness? Mental health is a comprehensive emotional, social, and psychological state of well-being. Well-being is critical here as it establishes that the individual with positive mental health is able to cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community. Mental health awareness is the ability to recognize when one or all of those signs of a positive mental health state isn’t there.
The Mental Health & Recovery Board works within our community, specifically through our five funded partner agencies, to help those dealing with mental illness and promote positive mental health. This year, The National Alliance on Mental Health is amplifying our message of being “Together for Mental Health” by inviting everyone to share their mental health story and what the message of "Together for Mental Health" means to them! Contribute your voice and share your story online today!
